New Work In Color

This morning I finished a large color 'stamp' piece. I'm still taking it in - a lot of color in one piece for me. But color is appearing a much of my work this January. Maybe it is the time of year and a rebellion against the cold gray weather. It certainly stems from my experiments this past fall with the rubber stamps and color. I reexamining a few of the things I learned regarding color relationships.

Last week I spent much of my time making signs for the Chicago Women's March. It was an amazing event, I so glad I attended. Michelle and Corinne carried a large cardboard sign I made from the boxes my framer gives me. And I also spray painted a series of smaller color stencil pieces that we handed out at the march. There are a few left in the gallery and I may make a few more.

House Beautiful - February 2018

One of my drawings appears in next months House Beautiful. The home of two very dear clients of mine has been featured in a 'Before and After' article in magazine. (Happily I made the 'after' portion of the redo.) Their place looks great and I am so happy to be a part of it.

The drawing pictured is a few years old, 2014 approximately. But I still make work related to this concept. As I often tell clients, the majority of my work derives for my High School drafting classes and this body of work falls right into that category. To quote Louise Bourgeois, “All my work of the last fifty years, all my subjects, have found their inspiration in my childhood.”

A few related drawings.

New Year, New Work

Bitter cold here in Chicago for the first week of January 2018. What else is there to do but work? The studio is cool but workable, and I have been treating myself to movies and the occasional cocktail with friends. But I have gotten some work done too.
