Medium Baskets

I made four medium-sized 'basket' drawings on beautiful Canson cold press watercolor paper. The design of these is based on isometric architectural drawing which is a type of perspective drawing where things shown in the drawing do not diminish toward a vanish point. All very technical and somewhat arcane but I think it makes for interesting patterning and depiction. I'm attracted to the minimalism of the drawing, it highlights the slight variations of my hand and the material. The black acrylic paint I used (Stuart Semple Black 2.0) is so black that they have an optical quality to them.

Even More Basket Drawings

I continue to explore the 'basket' motif. Graphic, architectural, optical, all thinks I am fascinated with. The last few days I have been working on larger paper but I wanted to post this series and a few others on the smaller paper. All drawing pictured are acrylic paint (Stuart Semple - Black 2.0) on 12 x 16 inch Arches cold press watercolor Paper. Have a good weekend. 

New 'Basket' Drawings

I have a client looking for two 'basket' drawings and I have none on hand. I of course over-produced and made ten, you need to in work of this type. There is an element of serendipity to their creation and the process cannot be fully controlled, hence better to make multiples and make choices from there.

New Drawings and an Invitation

This spring has been all about black and white drawings. I have a new black acrylic paint that is so dark and dense that it almost becomes optical when applied to white paper. Thus I have been revisiting some old genres of my drawings to reevaluate my intent. The majority of the drawings have been made on 12 x 16 inch Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper.

Mulit-Baskets

I recently had a conversation with a client, an admirer of my 'Basket' drawings, and they proposed the idea of a still life made up of multiple, overlapping baskets. I was unsure if that was something that I thought might work, but this week I made some studies to investigate and flesh out the idea. I will present the drawings below, roughly in the order in which they were created. There were a couple missteps that ended in the trash out of frustration, but I eventually got my groove on, found the right brush, got the acrylic paint to the right consistency...  I very much am engaged by the last few drawings. I plan to make more.
