New Work - June 2018

I've been on a bit of a run with the India ink drawings this week. A commission for a Michigan client has inspired a slight evolution in the box-like imagery in the drawings. I sometimes refer to them as complex cages and that applies to these new configurations.

The color study panels are up on the walls in the gallery for a show we opened last Friday. These are all modular and can be moved and rearranged and desired. I'm not finished with either series but I am interrupted this week.

Stay At Home Day One

I have worked out a method to post on my blog from home! Good thing as it looks like I might be here for a few weeks if not longer . I hope to write almost every day during this time of social isolation, providing content for friends confined to their own homes. My postings will be quick and dirty, I am not a writer, barely a passable speller. I am still unsure of what exactly the content of this blog will be, I have a few ideas, but I plan to stay largely away from politics and crisis recapping. There is plenty of that out there if you desire. I'm focusing on looking toward the future, post-virus, when we will all resume out lives. For the next few days I will post random images from my computer desktop. It is a mess, I save images I would like to review later and my taste range wide and undisciplined. The images pictured below are all vintage travel posters, I love the one I have as my desktop image. The color is crazy good, and the graphic nature of the printing makes me happy. The artists name is Henry George Gawthorn.  I will begin with an image of my actual desktop and proceed from there. More tomorrow.

Coming Soon - Montrose Yacht Club - New Work

I installed 20 pieces at the Montrose Yacht Club this week. We will be holding a reception at some point but I'm holding out for warmer weather, maybe July? I will be sure you all get an invite.

All new work, a variety of sizes and shapes. A few leftover pieces in the gallery.

More Color

A Paul Klee homage
Block Printing Ink on Arches Watercolor Paper - 40 x 26 inches
The first drawing with the long rectangular rubber stamp. Primarily a color theory exploration.
Block Printing Ink on Arches Watercolor Paper - 40 x 26 inches
Color mixing one step at a time. I prefer this drawing in a horizontal orientation.

The work table where colors are mixed. Note the rubber stamp in the upper right hand corner.

And I have spray painting a bit. An extension of the signs I made last month. Playing with color and letting it fly. Spray paint on cardboard.

And finally, spray painting into a striped piece.
